چکیده

The ion phase-space dynamics in the Coulomb explosion of very large (∼ 10 − 10 atoms) deuterium clusters can be tailored using two consecutive laser pulses with different intensities and an appropriate time delay. For suitable sets of laser parameters (intensities and delay), large-scale shock shells form during the explosion, thus highly increasing the probability of fusion reactions within the single exploding clusters. In order to analyze the ion dynamics and evaluate the intracluster reaction rate, a one-dimensional theory is used, which approximately accounts for the electron expulsion from the clusters. It is found that, for very large clusters (initial radius ∼ 100 nm), and optimal laser parameters, the intracluster fusion yield becomes comparable to the intercluster fusion yield. The validity of the results is confirmed with three-dimensional particle-in-cell simulations. We report on spectroscopic imaging observations of the nearby (z=0.022) galaxy cluster 3C 129 performed with the ACIS detector on board of the Chandra X-ray observatory. Applying a deprojection analysis which fully takes into account the spatially resolved X-ray energy spectra we investigate the radial variation of temperature and particle density of the Intracluster Medium (ICM). While earlier...

Design and Analysis of Graded Honeycomb Shock Absorber for Increasing the Safety of Passengers in Armored Vehicles Exposed to Mine Explosion

Protecting armored vehicles from mine explosion can lead to the survival of thousands of people exposed to this risk. Very purpose, shock absorbers such as honeycomb structures can be applied for crashworthiness improvement. In this study, graded honeycomb structure is primarily introduced as a shock absorber, followed by the introduction of its absorbed energy and the force and acceleration ap...

We use a 54.4 ks Chandra observation to study nuclear outflow activity in NGC 4552 (M89), an elliptical galaxy in the Virgo Cluster. Chandra images in the 0.5 − 2 keV band show two ring-like features ∼ 1.7kpc in diameter in the core of NGC 4552, as reported previously by Filho et al. We use spherically symmetric point explosion shock models to argue that the shape of the surface brightness prof...

The intergalactic gas in groups and clusters of galaxies bears the indelible stamp of galaxy formation. We present a comparison between observations and simple theoretical models indicating that radiative cooling governs the entropy scale that sets the core radius of the intracluster medium. Entropy measured at the radius 0.1r200 scales as T , in accord with cooling-threshold models for the reg...
